- In 2006, George A. LaMarca and Gregory W. Landry received the prestigious Public Justice Award from the Iowa Association for Justice for their successful class action lawsuit to end unjust billing practices of hospitals and other health care providers.
- The attorney members at LaMarca & Landry, P.C. are actively involved in legal education. George A. LaMarca, Gregory W. Landry, Gary G. Mattson, Justin E. LaVan and James J. Biscoglia have been invited to lecture on trial tactics and other subjects related to litigation at more than 100 CLE accredited seminars and programs, providing accredited continuing legal education for lawyers, legal assistants, and legal investigators.
Commitment to Education
At LaMarca & Landry, P.C., we proudly support legal education programs in the Des Moines, Iowa area. Our attorneys have been involved in the education and mentoring of over 80 Drake and Iowa law school students participating in the firm’s law clerkship program. We have served as an approved sponsor of required legal internships for Des Moines Area Community College and frequently serve as judges and coaches in “Moot Court” and “Mock Trial” programs. We strongly believe that serving as mentors to law students not only benefits the legal community but future clients as well.
The firm has established the LaMarca & Landry, P.C. Health Law Scholarship at Drake University Law School. In 2008, the firm implemented this scholarship with an initial endowment pledge of $150,000 to provide annual scholarships for worthy students interested in health law. This scholarship is designed to complement the Health Law and Policy Center of the Law School, which has been established to serve as a resource to the community on current issues of health law and policy. This scholarship will help Drake University Law School attract top students and to produce legally trained graduates prepared to serve and participate on matters of public health, health care and delivery.
George A. LaMarca has established the George A. LaMarca Trial Advocacy Scholarship at Drake University Law School. In 2002, Mr. LaMarca initiated this scholarship with a total endowment of $225,000 which funds an annual scholarship to a student who has demonstrated an interest in the field of trial advocacy. Financial need and participation in extra-curricular activities related to trial advocacy, such as Mock Trial or Moot Court, are equally significant factors in the selection of a recipient.
For over ten years, George A. LaMarca has served on the editorial board of the Trial Diplomacy Journal. This journal is a national legal publication that promotes excellence in trial advocacy by providing a peer-reviewed professional medium for learning courtroom skills and trial techniques from the nation’s top trial attorneys.
LaMarca & Landry, P.C. attorneys have authored over 60 articles accepted for
publication by respected legal journals. George A. LaMarca’s writing experience includes editorial positions with The Trial Diplomacy Journal, The Trial Lawyer, and the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association publications. He is the author of a highly acclaimed and widely-used reference book for Iowa
