What is a mechanic’s lien?

Despite the name, mechanic’s liens are usually owned by construction companies, subcontractors, and providers of building materials. When a business hires a company to construct or repair their property, the company will typically take a lien on the property as protection against unpaid bills. If the business fails to pay the construction company what it is owned, they can use the lien to force the business to auction off the property and repay them.

If you would like to build a new structure or renovate an older one, you need to be familiar with your rights and responsibilities under a mechanic’s lien. Contact Des Moines mechanic’s lien attorneys LaMarca & Landry, P.C. at 877-327-2600.
